Ever felt like you’re spinning your wheels? You’re doing the best you can, and it’s just not enough? I think to some degree, we’ve all been there.
Parenting: I’m doing the best I can (said in frustration some days) Business: I’ve done the best I can do (unsure why something isn’t successful) Fitness: I’m doing the best I can (said in a tone that feels like defeat)
We’ve all been there.
But I’ve got good news for you.
In the words of Jim Rohn, “Is the best you can do ALL you can do? Of course not.”
And herein lies the beauty of life change.
Rohn says that let’s say you’re going to do push-ups. And let’s say that right now in your life, you can only do 5 push-ups. Now, that really may be the best you can do. You’re red-faced, your muscles gave out and that was it. That was your best effort.
Is that all you can do?
Of course not.
You can rest a few minutes, do 5 more push-ups. Rest a few more minutes, do 5 more. Whoa… suddenly, now you’re up to 15 push-ups! Rest a little more, you can do 5 more, then 5 more.
Now you’re up to 25 push-ups!
How did you go from 5 to 25!?! It’s a miracle! (if you can imagine Jim Rohn’s voice here, even better)
The Art of Exceptional Living by Jim Rohn is one of my favorite ‘books on tape’ ever, ever, ever. It’s actually a collection of his speaking engagements and will C-H-A-N-G-E your life by changing your mindset and life philosophy. Please check it out on Amazon here:
So, funny enough, it turns out that the best you can do, isn’t actually ALL you can do… And that’s good news.
Because it means you get to try again. You get to get back at it. You get to do 5x, 10x, 100x more than you ever thought you can do, because you kept going at it.
You can apply this life principle to anything. Meditation. Relationships & Communication. Entrepreneurship. Learning an Instrument – I mean, anything.
The message here is to take heart and to be persistent. Perseverance and determination will always win.
Sending you love… Bridgett
