I once listened to an audiobook in the “new thought” genre that talked about getting signs from the universe in specific ways. I wish I could remember which book, but it was a few years ago.
I remember the author talking about setting up a signal for yourself so that when you felt most aligned, when you were wanting confirmation you were on the right path, you would get a sign from God, or the Universe, or a Higher Power.
For the author, she decided it would be rainbows. She made a mental note to herself that whenever she would see a rainbow, it would be a sign. I can’t remember if she used the phrase “God wink” or not, but I certainly have come to think of it as that. It’s like getting a little wink from God that you are on the right path.
In the book, she began seeing rainbows repeatedly. In the sky, in magazines, on television. And each time, it felt like validation. Maybe it was a message from her higher self. It’s hard to know.
But what she did believe, and what I believe as well, is that it was a good sign. Reassuring, validating and actually, quite exciting.
I decided then and there, mid-book, that I would create my own version of this. I wanted to think of something that was unusual enough that it would catch my attention when it happened, but something that also is possible to see in every day life.
For me, I chose this phenomena that happens when the sun catches the light just right in a reflection – a brilliant flash of light. I would see this occasionally from time to time from a car mirror or window of a house. It’s a bright, sometimes very quick, pulse of sunlight being reflecting. Incredibly bright. Very noticeable. And something that doesn’t happen very often. It would definitely get my attention.
So, I set up this ‘rule’ this agreement with God in my mind. 😉
Whenever I would see this reflection of light, it would be a sign to myself that I was on the right path.
God winks and other signs and signals you are on the right path
Lo and behold, wouldn’t you know it? That was 3 years ago and to this very day, I still take those little signs as winks from God. They still happen. They catch my attention. They uplift me. They make me smile.
Sometimes they are super strong bolts of light that last for many seconds. Sometimes they come from unexpected places. Sometimes they are brief. But they always make me feel wonderful.
They can uplift me when I’m having a bad moment. They can fortify me when I’m already on a good roll.
These little signs are gentle, yet huge, reminders that there is more at play in lives than the here and now and what we can see materially in front of our eyes. Just like manifesting four-leaf clovers, finding coins on the sidewalk or getting free coffee, we can have some fun with these universal laws.
I encourage you to find playful ways to connect with your source. To embrace it in ways that will invigorate you throughout your day, to bolster you, uplift you.
What is something you could create as a sign in your life? Yellow butterflies? A heads up penny? Dandelions? Pick something. Wait for it to show up. Enjoy.
In gratitude always,
