It’s an enticing lifestyle business. Working online… the freedom to travel, take the day off, earn revenue while you sleep… reach people all over the world. I speak of the virtues of online entrepreneurship frequently, because I positively love it. For me, it truly is about having, doing and being what I sincerely want in this world.
Yet, at the same time, it’s not an overnight switch you can flip. It requires a commitment over time (many people start and stop) and it requires some skill (which you pick up along the way).
The path is beautiful, no doubt. But only if you really want it.
Passive income, multiple revenue streams, leveraging your time and growing a worldwide community or brand – all freaking amazing. Here’s the other side: late nights, some tech know-how, a burning desire to be successful and some degree of funding – all totally possible and achievable.
But is it right for you, right now?
Here are a few questions you should consider before heading down this (amazing) path.
Is there room in your life for taking on a new business model, investing time and energy (and at least some money) in a new venture?
If time is tight, are you motivated to find the time?
What drives you? What truly fuels you?
Do you have a sincere passion for creating a business?
What skills do you already have in the bank?
What mentors, coaches, colleagues or friends could you utilize as a resource?
Are you willing to do things outside of the ‘norm’ or ‘status quo’? For instance, would you attend an Internet Marketing meeting if you thought it could help you? Toastmasters for public speaking? Events across the country? How much would you be willing to do?
Do those new activities and ideas excite you or frighten you?
Are you willing to work full-time on your salary and part-time on your fortune? (eventually having your part-time project take over)
What are your goals?
What is your life vision?
What is your reason for diving into online entrepreneurship? Is it because you’re in debt and want a quick fix? Or is it because you are drawn to a better life, truly?
What are your strengths?
What kind of business do you envision? Something objective (selling a widget on Amazon to turn a profit) or is it something personal (offering your services, your personality, putting your life ‘out there’ publicly), or is it something in-between (such as Best Self Journals)?
Are you willing to fail?
Are you willing to try again?
Are you willing to be in some degree of discomfort as you learn?
Is there fire in you or a mild interest?
What do you really want in your life??
Most people don’t know. Find out. Figure it out. Without knowing what you really and truly want…. you won’t get it. You won’t see major change. You won’t take major steps or major action.
The rewards are great. In fact, they can be astronomical. But you will sweat. You will toil. You will doubt. Even if you are fortunate enough to work ‘in the flow’ most of the time. Even if you are tuned in and tapped in to your true purpose. There will be hard days. But there will be tons of beautiful freedom-filled days. Days where you wake up and do NOT have to punch a clock. Days where you do NOT have to sit in rush hour traffic. Days when you can go for a walk in fresh air and sunshine while you generate sales online. Days when your bank account grow fuller and fuller – because with entrepreneurship, there is no income ceiling. The only limitation would be…. y-o-u.
