It’s no secret that clutter affects us. Physical clutter, a messy work space, a cluttered mind, etc. It all adds up to not operating at your highest level. Not being your best self. And there’s another element at play too. Your vibration. Yep, I believe we can even ‘clean up’ our vibration. We do this by clarifying our intentions, our thoughts.
I have been working at a messy desk for some time now. Now, we all have reasons/excuses for why things are the way they are.
Certainly, I’ve got my list:
- Said in a poke-fun-of-myself kind of manner… I’m just a messy person (yikes – who wants that affirmation?)
- I’ve got a newborn and a 5 year old
- My energy needs to be on the important things right now
- If I have a free hour, I’ve got a hundred other things I need to do besides clean
- A messy desk is not a big deal
- It doesn’t matter if I clean it, it just gets messy again
And on, and on… all leading to – a continuation of a messy desk. Clutter. Physical, mental, vibrational.
And I KNOW that is not the kind of person I want to be. I want to operate from a place of beauty, cleanliness, organization, clarity (of all kinds), professionalism, even sophistication. And this was not the picture I had in mind.
Clarity and Focus
Tonight, I felt pulled in many directions. There were work tasks to be done. Recordings to be made. Stats to check. Big and small items on my list.
There were things I needed to do for my kids. Homeschooling instruction to organize, laundry to do and taking care of my 7 week old baby. (Not to mention organizing his baby photos, starting his baby book and more.) Life is so full. Blissfully full.
There were more things I needed to do… for me. Meditate, exercise, visualize, read, pray, journal, make a freaking smoothie because I need to whip my diet back into shape. 🙂 Self-care was on the list.
I needed to clear my head and see what floated to the top.
With so much on my mind, guess what surfaced? In the stillness and calm that came from sitting in a chair and doing nothing for ten full minutes – I mean, doing absolutely nothing but sitting in the momentary quiet of a still house. (Kids asleep) I knew.
Clutter and Vibration
I knew that cleaning up would get me in a more powerful position to lead from. And isn’t that interesting. How the simple act of have a tidy clutter-free space can lift us up?
It’s as if the physical stacks of papers, books, pictures, random assortment of items… pens, cups, etc, really do draw energy AWAY from us rather than filling us up.
I’ve learned a bit about Feng Shui over the years (and of course, getting rid of clutter is pretty basic in terms of creating good energy), but on my desk I have some beautiful items I’ve selected to support good energy.
I’ve got bamboo growing beautifully in my Wealth corner (upper left corner of your desk), I’ve got a laughing big-bellied Buddha surrounded by 5 children that I chose to support me during times of focus on fertility and becoming a mother again – and yet, these items get covered over and stifled when they are in a cluttered space.
What a breath of fresh air to clean. To organize. To know where something is when you need it. To have room to work.
I actually believe my vibration is raised, my emotional level renewed, my breath a little deeper, in the new spacious space.
I’ve read before that people who suffer from depression tend to keep items and clutter on the floor. Over the years, I’ve suffered with depression, and I can attest that was true for me. There’s always a connection. Everything is intertwined. Nothing exists in isolation.
Take a look around at your space. Is it beautiful? Is it clean? Does it foster productivity for work, or creativity for play? Does it make you feel good to be there? What is one thing you can do right now to improve your space?
Create a life you truly love – in every way. You deserve beautiful surroundings. Take care of your space and it will affect your mind, your emotions and how you feel physically. And yep, your vibration will raise.
And that’s always a good thing, when you want to draw more good into your life.
