We know that our beliefs shape our world, quite literally. From our beliefs (which are ingrained in our subconscious), flow our thoughts. Thoughts lead to emotion. And those are all powerful drivers of what actually shows up and manifests in our life.
With this knowledge, we then begin to determine that if life is not quite like we wish it to be, we must need new beliefs.
We must have old or limiting beliefs that don’t serve us.
Identifying these beliefs is an important step. It takes introspection, self-reflection and insight to figure out what these beliefs are. For me personally, I don’t spend hours meditating on what is within me that is ‘wrong’. Rather, I simply focus on what I want to create – and let the universe take over.
Sometimes that’s easier said than done though, right?
And it’s a remarkable moment when you have an a-ha moment that allows you to see with clear eyes what beliefs you have been carrying that you suddenly realize is there and you no longer want to accept.
I’ve had these moments when I was being coached and other moments of clarity. It feels amazing.
There are really two steps to this process:
How to Create New Beliefs (and let go of limiting beliefs)
- Identify what isn’t serving you: This is option one. Not 100% necessary in order to thrive, but helpful nonetheless.
My caution to you is not to go too far down the rabbit hole of looking for ‘what is wrong with me’ because that position disempowers you.
2. Figure out what you want to believe and ‘install’ it into your consciousness. This is option two and really is mandatory for life change. What you think and believe shows up for you in your life.
Figuring out what you’d rather believe can be as simple as saying, “I know I am worthy,” or “Life gets better for me every single day,” or “I am a peaceful, loving person,” or “I always pay my bills early.”
Say it daily, write it, rinse, repeat. The subconscious needs to hear it repeatedly.
Sometimes it’s more in-depth than that. The deeper stuff comes through insights, mentors and coaches who can reflect back to you – so that you begin to see more clearly.
Then you get deeper roots of belief systems that don’t serve you, and that goes more like this:
“Hmm… (silence) I guess that is true. I have always gravitated towards people who cannot help themselves, and I’ve taken pity on them in an effort to try to help them. Now, I’m taking pity on my clients. That doesn’t serve them or me or my business!!” Old belief identified: I believe I have to pity others who need my help. They can’t afford to pay for services. I have to give away my help for free in order to help others who are less fortunate.
Of course the problem(s) with this belief is that 1) you can’t run a business giving everything away for free and 2) you do those individuals a great disservice by not viewing them as capable, abundant, wise, empowered, resourceful, and more.
Now it’s easy to create the new belief and easier to ‘install’ because you KNOW it’s true! Everyone is abundant, powerful and has access to unlimited resources through their divine right.
Help them see that, but don’t pity them.
This is just one (of potentially millions) of beliefs you could identify and replace.
Start by making a list. What do you believe about x, y, z?
Sit in the silence when the answer doesn’t come right away. Sit in the discomfort, if that appears.
Answer these questions:
What do I believe about earning money?
- it requires hard work ?
- I’ve tried and failed so many times…. ?
- people can’t afford what I need to charge ?
- what are your answers??
Then answer this:
What would I rather believe? What can I believe instead?
Use this new belief as a daily affirmation. Own it. Feel it. Don’t forget about it tomorrow. Keep going.
Your personal development and spiritual growth depend on it. Not to mention, your health, wealth and love.
Create a life you truly love.
